Overview:
Primary role is to support sales in Asia – both sourcing and selling with a particular focus on mainland China. The secondary role for the incumbent is to support international sales. Working closely with specialists and consultants in Asia, and other international sale centres, the incumbent will develop sourcing and selling approach for major/key collections.
Working closely with the head of departments, the incumbent will learn and support to defining business strategy for the China market and be responsible for business getting, developing strong relationships with our existing client base as well as identifying new opportunities for development.
The incumbent will make recommendations, working closely with Managing Director, China, on sourcing, curating and selling approaches. Execution is subject to the approval of relevant Head of Department.
Responsibilities:
●Supporting departments on various projects and business opportunities
Providing high level of client service with day-to-day information on past and forthcoming sales, identifying property of interest for upcoming sales, obtaining condition reports and translation if required, offering bidding and registration information, handling post sale issues, such as: account enquiries, sale results, invoice, payment, storage, shipment etc.
●Participating in sales meetings, business getting and negotiation, supporting in meeting net profit targets
●Participating marketing events, international sales as require
●Working closely with relevant Head of Departments, contributing to the company’s business plans by increasing market share
●Expanding client base with emphasis on introducing/disclosing business opportunities
●Expanding the information database in mainland China and other relevant areas
●Delivering bespoke solutions to consigners and clients in accordance with the company’s corporate governance
●Dealing with day-to-day client enquiries by email and on the telephone
●Assisting Senior Specialists in facilitating private sales where appropriate
●Assisting the preparation of valuations and proposals
●If requested, participating in Jewellery catalogue production, cataloguing objects to the highest standard in fulfilling client expectations and sales deadlines
●Assisting Jewellery department with research, building an archive and reference sources
●Develop and maintain in-depth jewellery market knowledge and awareness
●Participating and seeking involvement in external activities relating to the industry and special relevance to jewellery
●Assisting business development opportunities in other categories
●Assisting in auction and non-auction business development projects as required
●Maintaining an exceptionally high level of client service, both internally and externally (colleagues and public)
●Operating at all times in accordance with the company’s rules on compliance and corporate governance
Qualifications:
●Degree educated or equivalent
●GIA qualified
●Proven experience with Business Getting and Expertise
●Expert knowledge of speciality should include:
─Current in-depth market knowledge and awareness
─Archives and Reference sources
─Understanding of the appropriate craft and restoration techniques – the physicality of the object
─Network of contacts within the market
●Proven business acumen
●Previous line management experience
●Proven commitment to excellence in Client Service, professional and discreet
●Functional working knowledge of the complete auction process and related procedures (e.g. shipping regulations, VAT, compliance)
●Excellent communication skills – fluent in Mandarin and conversational English
●Flexible and receptive to change
●Flexible to travel at certain times of the year to support sales, traveling exhibitions and client visits
